A Small Country Town With A Traditional Way Of Life
Beni Khiar is a small town about 3 miles from Nabeul.  It has many small, winding alleyways where you can quite often come across carpets being woven in the traditional way and one main street with a variety of shops.  Primary schools are plentiful and there is one big main college for senior school aged children.  Compared to England the nursery schools are also very cheap.  According to a recent report in La Presse, one of Tunisia's French daily newspapers, prices for these differ depending on which town you live in.  2006 prices for a morning or afternoon place at a nursery school in Beni Khiar ranged from the Tunisian equivalent of about £8-10.00 per month! 

This is where my family and I have chosen to build our home. We are building a villa on what is currently farmland which has meant that we have fig, olive, orange and pomegranate trees in our garden and a wonderful view from our terrace of open countryside stretching all the way down to the sea!

An expat living in Beni Khiar is a rarity which has meant becoming a bit of a minor celebrity and a visit to the school or shops can sometimes mean fighting your way through the crowds of school children, all anxious to practice their English on you, or elderly ladies dashing out of their homes to stare in amazement!

Live A Healthier Life With Change In Your Pocket!
Beni Khiar has a wonderfully cheap vegetable and fruit market from around Saturday midday to Sunday afternoon, joined by the main market with a variety of stalls on a Sunday.  Most of the shopkeepers are very friendly and only too pleased to help you with anything you need to know.

From The Sea To Your Plate In Minutes!
Beni Khiar has a working port, so fish lovers would be in their element living here.  If you can't make it early in the morning to the port to pick up some fresh fish, throughout the day, every day, you will always find people standing by the roadside selling fish to passers-by.  Also from the port you have the opportunity to cruise on an old-fashioned pirate boat to Hammamet with entertainment, music and food provided.

Happy Times With The Family At The Beach
During the summer months it tends to get very busy in the evenings down by Beni Khiar beach, where many people spend their time in the cafe, which includes a special enclosed family garden, with great views over the long, sandy bay.
