NO MARMITE IN TUNISIA

Life In Tunisia For British Expats

Hergla

For those seeking traditional Tunisia, without a mass influx of tourism, and keen to get to know the culture of the 'real' Tunisia, then look no further than Hergla.

Hergla is simply stunning!  Be prepared to walk around this charming little town, as I did, with the only word to escape from your lips, being "Wow!"

White washed houses, covered in attractive bougainvillea, quaint little streets and alleyways, winding their way down to the sparkling, clear, blue Mediterranean sea, and cliff top walks through lush, mature gardens, taking in the stunning scenery!  And Hergla is clean!  With not even one discarded sweet wrapper to be found, you almost feel as if you could eat your dinner off the pavement, literally!

Hergla's main streets are lined with pots, bursting with plants and flowers, a very pretty feature.

The main, local industry appears to be basket weaving and displays of this can be found for sale in the small number of tourist shops, located near to the seafront.  The locals tell me tasty, fresh fish, straight out of the water can be purchased from the port in the mornings.

But the thing that hits you most about Hergla, is the peace, the calm, the solitude and the serenity.  Feel all your troubles melt away, as you enjoy refreshments at one of the picturesque little coffee shops, overlooking the sea or cliff top gardens.

How long will Hergla be allowed to remain as probably one of the last of its kind around the Mediterranean?   In a couple of years work is planned to begin on a new Port El Kantaoui style marina, following massive foreign investment, on land just a bit further along from the old fishing port.  Sounds great.....just as long as they leave sweet and lovely Hergla, the old town, just as it is, allowing tourists and us expats out here to continue enjoying our relaxing, day trips to the picture-postcard resort!

If investing in a holiday home in Hergla, sounds just like your kind of thing, The Tunisian House Limited, the only British registered estate agency currently operating in Tunisia, are offering apartments near to the Lake of Hergla and within easy reach of the beach for sale in the Sousse section of their website!

Enjoy many holidays in Hergla, which also has additional attractions such as quad bikes, the karting park and deep sea diving on offer.  Sousse and Port El Kantaoui are just a short bus, louage, or taxi ride away.  The new marina planned for Hergla, will increase your home's value, as well as making it extremely desirable as a property for rent also.
