The world's most eccentric running club, with over 1700 groups in every major city in the world, also has a group based here in Tunisia, in Carthage. Starting in 1938, in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia, the Carthage branch was founded in 1979 by a man named Gene Fox, who was a teacher at the American School of Tunis.

Hashing is a social run, excellent for all levels of fitness, and is loosely based on the Hare & Hounds paper chase which was popular in English Public (i.e. Private) schools many years ago, where one Hare started the run some minutes before the following bunch. He marked his trail by small pieces of paper, trying to mislead the "Hounds" and trying to stay ahead of them.
From that small beginning in Malaysia, participants spread all over the world and started similar clubs in lots of towns and countries.
The Carthage branch normally meets on Saturday afternoons throughout the year and welcomes both runners and walkers to places around the La Marsa and Tunis areas. There are also a number of weekend events held, one of the most popular being in the Aldiana Hotel in Hammamet. and 2 camping trips a year. 2006 saw discos, a masked ball, mountain treks, a weekend in Ain Draham, camping in Bizerte and Kerkouane, beach runs, and a party at the American Embassy.
The Hash House Harriers claim to be the group in Tunis which is the most mixed, melting pot of people, you could possibly meet and a great social vehicle for many in Tunisia
