Hello,

I'm wondering whether rollerblading is common in Tunisia and whether there are good paths for skating. In particular I will be staying with a friend in Nabeul so wondered if along the sea there are smooth paths, but also would like to know in general if Tunisia is good for skating.

Thank you!

Veronica

The pavements are not in the best of condition generally, and skating in the road is NOT advisable, where the surface is good is aroung government buildings where I feel such activity would be frowned upon.  Enjoy more of this wonderful country with a relaxed stroll.

Ever so often we will sit in a cafe which is in the centre of Nabeul and you will often see school children roller blading in the middle of the road...Hair raising to watch and plenty of near misses!  This is together with the many kids who climb onto the back of a vehicle at traffic lights for a ride!

I agree that unfortunately Tunisia is not rollerblade friendly. In addition to being unsafe and flat pavement seldom being present, it might also attract unwanted attention. Perhaps I live in a particularly conservative area (Sfax), but here that would never pass. Rollerbladies are considered a childrens toy and Tunisians would find an adult doing so to be ridiculous. At least where I live you would likely invite sexual harrassment, people staring at you, or maybe even people throwing stones. I used to ride a bike in Sfax and that is the kind of treatment I got so I can't even imagine what attention rollerblades would attract. Maybe other parts of Tunisia are more open minded but I still don't think it is a good idea. Sorry...
